When considering an Icon Rocklear install, many vehicle owners wonder what happens if their car already has paint protection film (PPF) or a coating like ceramic, wax, SiO2, sealant, or graphene.
Icon Rocklear can only go on painted/clearcoated surfaces, not over glass, plastics, chrome, powdercoated surfaces, etc.
Here’s how we handle it:
For Vehicles with PPF
You have two options:
- Keep the PPF: We can coat the rest of the vehicle and skip the areas with PPF. This works best if your PPF is less than 3-4 years old and in excellent condition.
- Remove the PPF: If you want a seamless, full-vehicle Icon Rocklear install, we can remove the PPF at our hourly rate and apply Icon Rocklear to the entire vehicle’s painted surfaces.
For Vehicles with Coatings (Ceramic, Wax, etc.)
Existing coatings need to be fully removed for Icon Rocklear to bond properly. Typically, removal takes about 4 hours, but half of this time is included in our standard decontamination process. That means you’re looking at roughly 2 hours of additional labor at our hourly rate—more for oversized vehicles.
Every situation is unique, and we’re happy to walk you through the best option for your vehicle to ensure maximum protection and performance.
