Why Timing Matters
When it comes to maintaining your vehicle’s appearance, addressing rock chips is a common concern. These tiny imperfections not only detract from your car’s aesthetic appeal but can also lead to further damage if left untreated. At Tap And Shine, we understand the importance of tackling these issues while ensuring the best results for our clients. That’s why we recommend a specific approach to handling rock chips in combination with our premier paint protection coating, Icon Rocklear.
The Icon Rocklear Advantage
Icon Rocklear is not your typical vehicle coating. It’s 75x stronger, 35x thicker, and 30% glossier than the industry standard, providing unparalleled protection and shine for your car. However, due to its powerful chemical composition, timing the application of Icon Rocklear and addressing pre-existing rock chips is crucial for the best outcome.
Why We Don’t Touch Up Rock Chips Before Installing Icon Rocklear
If you have pre-existing rock chips, it might seem logical to touch them up before applying Icon Rocklear. However, there’s a reason we recommend waiting. When touch-up paint is freshly applied, it hasn’t fully cured. Because Icon Rocklear is a strong chemical coating, applying it over fresh touch-up paint can actually wipe the paint off, negating your efforts and compromising the integrity of both the touch-up and the coating.
Our Recommended Process
Instead of rushing into touch-ups before coating, here’s what we do at Tap And Shine:
Install Icon Rocklear First: We start by applying Icon Rocklear to your vehicle. This ensures that the coating adheres to your car’s surface without disturbing any fresh paint.
Wait for the Curing Period: Icon Rocklear requires 30 days to fully harden, thicken, and cure. During this time, the coating bonds to your vehicle’s surface, creating a durable, protective layer. Learn about the Icon Rocklear Aftercare Instructions here.
Complimentary 30-Day Check-Up: After the 30-day curing period, we invite you back for a mandatory but complimentary 15-minute Check-Up Inspection Appointment. During this inspection, we carefully examine all the coated surfaces to ensure everything has cured properly and that you’ve followed the Icon Rocklear Aftercare Instructions.
Post-Cure Touch-Ups: If your vehicle has rock chips that need touching up, bring your touch-up paint or paint pen to the inspection appointment. We’ll carefully apply the touch-up paint over the cured Icon Rocklear coating. This process ensures the touch-up paint adheres properly without being disturbed by the coating process. Depending on the extent of the touch-ups needed, you may need to leave your vehicle with us for an hour or two, or possibly for the day if we are booked up.
Why This Process Works
This approach not only protects the integrity of both the touch-up paint and the Icon Rocklear coating but also ensures that your vehicle maintains its flawless finish. By waiting until after the coating has fully cured, we can guarantee that your vehicle receives the best possible care, leaving it looking as good as new with long-lasting protection.
